Mini Soccer Finals Day

MINI SOCCER FINALS

Three close and exciting Mini Soccer Finals were played at The Rookery, Southport today, Sunday.

In the Jim Rourke Cup (Under 9), Southport FC Juniors Yellow and Redgate Rovers Yellow produced a real thriller with both defences proving very hard to break down. Just as it looked as though extra time might be a possibility, Southport FC  scored and this was enough for them to take the Cup by 1-0.

The Under 10 Charity Shield saw Ormskirk FC take a two goal lead in the 1st half only for Southport Trinity Blue to pull a goal back after half time.  Despite pressure from Southport Trinity Blue, Ormskirk FC held out to win the Shield 2-1.

The Wilf Jenkinson Cup (Under 10) was also close run with Formby JSC Rangers scoring in the first half and increasing the lead to 2-0 after half time. This stung Hesketh Colts into action and they reduced the lead with a well taken goal but were unable to force extra time with the Formby goalkeeper making a couple of excellent saves to preserve his team’s lead.  The match ended 2-1 in favour of Formby JSC Rangers.

All three games produced end to end football and were a credit to their Managers and Coaches and thoroughly enjoyed by all the spectators.

Cup Finals 2013

The first Cup Finals of the season were played at Burscough FC last night.

In the John Disley Under 12 Cup, Redgate Rovers Black beat Billinge Juniors 2-1 in a thrilling game.  Redgate Rovers scored twice in the first half playing with the wind behind them and although Billinge pulled one back early in the second half they were unable to find a second goal as Redgate put up a stout defence to take the Cup.

In the Tom Owens Under 15 Cup, Hudson Celtic, the current leaders in the Championship Division, took a one goal lead in the first half against Premier Division Club Southport Trinity.  In the second half, Hudson Celtic quickly increased the lead to 3 – 0 and eventually ran out 5 – 0 winners showing that they are likely to be a force in the higher Division next season if they win the Championship Division and get promoted.
